About Us

Our Story

Maine Wildlife Rehabilitation (MWR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the Bangor area dedicated to supporting native wildlife through rehabilitation and environmental education. Our team prioritizes providing high-quality medical care and individual animal welfare.

MWR was founded in 2024 with the goal of filling a much needed medical role in the central and northern Maine wildlife rehabilitation community. MWR is able to provide wildlife focused advanced veterinary care, including orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries, on a wide variety of different species.

MWR is deeply invested in fostering collaboration between organizations in the state for the betterment of Maine’s wildlife by developing partnerships with other wildlife rehabilitators, government agencies, and environmental organizations.

Avery Berkowitz, DVM, CWR

Executive Director, Veterinarian

Avery is a wildlife veterinarian with over 15 years of wildlife rehabilitation experience across the country, with special interests in the areas of avian orthopedics, ophthalmology, and tiny animal surgeries.

Stephanie Lindsell, MS, CWR

Co-founder, Rehabilitator

Stephanie is a certified rehabilitator with over 8 years of experience with a wide variety of different species.
